Oh dear, what can I say? Almost three weeks have passed by in a flash. They have not been void of training sessions, but these have been few and far between. I've been caught amidst multiple work commitments at the ASRC, plus the Light in Winter Festival, plus organising Melbourne's second Sunday Assembly, and the never-ending onslaught of homework. I've achieved a whole heap in the past three weeks, just not in the realm of running. So, to make up for this mess I've set myself a new challenge...and it involves travel.
Tomorrow I hit the road en route to Darwin for the Darwin Cup. First challenge is to go running every single day (I know this is an unlikely goal but I'm setting it anyway). Second, I'm going to run two laps around Uluru non-stop. Seeing as it's about 10km around that's almost a half marathon and will be my first training run of that distance. These are tall orders, true, but gosh-darnit I need to get back in form!
The best part is that I'll have a travel and training buddy, so each of us can encourage (nag) the other. Plus, we both have a penchant for hiking and we're taking our bicycles to get about town in so that we don't just drive everywhere. Hopefully by the time we return to Melbourne in August we'll both be fit, happy, and healthy...despite the inevitable road food and beer swilling we are bound to encounter.
So, strap yourself in, dear reader, as this blog attempts to combine travel with training in a cross-country trip! Yeeeeha!
